Occupying most of uptown Toronto, North York is a largely residential area and has many micro-neighbourhoods of its own. Travelling around North York is very convenient due to a well-functioning subway system. Famously, North York is known for having the two largest shopping centres in Toronto: Yorkdale Shopping Centre and the Fairview Mall. North York is one of the cultural centres of Toronto because of the rich ethnic diversity of its neighbourhoods, something that the area’s multiple eateries and cultural events reflect. Looking at activities, the Mel Lastman Square is one of the most important areas to visit. The square is populated with the North York Public Library, shops, offices, restaurants, and the North York Centre Station on the Yonge-University Line.
